What can a good haircut and blow-dry do for you? Magic, that’s what it can do. What I mean by that is you can literally walk into a hair salon in a perfectly awful stupor and walk out after a good wash, condition, cut and blow-dry feeling like a totally different person. How? Well, when we [my daughter and I] walked in this morning, it was with trepidation; for as always, it’s practically impossible to satisfy a 16-year-old teenage girl’s hairdressing style. I reassured her that I’d been to this particular hairstylist, that she knew what she was doing, that she was practically Merlin the Magician with scissors, and that she could really, truly make her look just like the photo she clutched in her hand. Of course, being a typical 16-year-old young woman, she didn’t believe a word I’d said, but she walked in like the trooper she is and faced her greatest fear: Hairstyle scalping disaster.
Like magic, in 30 minutes the stylist had cut my daughter’s locks to look just like the photo she presented, and my daughter literally glowed like the moon. Her sheer happiness thrilled me so much, that when I sat down for my haircut and blow-dry, I really didn’t care how my hair turned out — because making my daughter happy on the hairstyle front is extremely hard to do — and seeing her that happy made me beyond happy — ecstatic, in fact. My haircut turned out so phenomenal that as we walked around the mall afterwards to get lunch in the food court, I felt like a movie star — totally proud in my skin, and feeling that I looked ten years younger.
So next time you’re feeling grouchy and out of sorts, call your friends, ask them for the name of the best stylist they’ve ever been to. Look for hairstyles on-line, print out the style you want, make an appointment, and experience the magic of feeling like a rock star — ten years younger, and you’ll understand how uplifting and magical an awesome hairstyle and blow-dry can be. Of course if the hairdresser scalps you, remember it wasn’t Tamara that sent you, it was your friend who gave you the referral.
