This past week, a crazed radical Islamist gunned down a rabbi, his two children, and another innocent child all to seek revenge for the deaths of innocents in Gaza. Did he care about the innocents injured in Israel by Hamas’ rocketfire daily? Did he care that Judaism believes that in killing a single soul, you are killing a small world, which is why Israel goes to so much trouble to try to avoid killing any innocents?
Does anyone care that Israel is under attack daily by Hamas rocketfire (http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/153143#.T25z88XOyxo) into Southern Israel? No, actually. No one cares but the Jews. A Jew dies at the hands of Hamas, a terrorist organization whose charter seeks the death of Israel (http://www.thejerusalemfund.org/www.thejerusalemfund.org/carryover/documents/charter.html) and the world does not grieve. A Muslim dies as the Jewish state tries to stop the Qassam rocket onslaught, trying at all costs to avoid innocents losing their life, and the world is incensed. World, open your eyes. See the truth (http://www.emetonline.org/)
This gunman doesn’t care that only a few years ago, during the Israel-Lebanon war, Israel dropped leaflets from the air to the population below begging them to move to a safer area, as that area was going to be under fire due to Hezbollah’s attacks upon the Jewish nation from that location. Tell me, have you ever heard of such a thing in a war? No. Only Israel would try to save lives like this. Why? Every life is a blessing. Every life is connected to every other life, which is why one person’s death affects all the other children of God.
No other nation on this planet goes to the lengths Israel does to avoid loss of life. Jews make up only .2 percent of the world’s population (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_percentage_of_the_world’s_population_is_Jewish). Why, as only .2 percent of the world’s population, are they being blamed again for the world’s problems? Has the world so quickly forgotten the lesson of 60 years ago, when the European Jewish population was decimated? Yes, it has. Start remembering, world!
The world has forgotten that the United Nations drew Israel’s borders and granted that land to the Jewish people in order to give them a place they could call home after their near annihilation. No sooner had the Jewish state been declared, the land’s inhabitants and its neighbors attacked Israel and started the propaganda machine we have today in portraying Jews as the scapegoat for all of the world’s problems.
The reality is that Israel is so tiny that it would fit into the State of Florida eight times (http://www.lookisrael.com/files/israelqa.php#q08). It’s surrounded by questionable allies and true enemies whose goal is literally to wipe it off the map; but Israel’s neighbors have already done just that in their schools’ history books, labeling the Land of Israel “Palestine,” and calling it a Muslim nation.
While Islam does not condone terrorism (http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/islam.htm), only 3% of American Muslims are concerned about the rise of Islamic terrorism (http://www.answeringabraham.com/2012/01/alarming-islam-statistics-muslims-in.html). I ask the religions of the world, especially Islam, to teach coexistence.
Stop blaming the Jews for everything, accept responsibility where it truly lies, and start working together as one global community, regardless of religion, to repair the world. The time is now. Love heals all wounds. Teach love. Teach understanding.
