100 Years?

ImageAs a 52-year-old aspiring chaplain, I am amazed every day with the people with whom I am blessed to visit.  I personally visit with four people who are all 100 years or older who are still mentally intact.  They are phenomenal!  They are, in fact, my inspiration!

They each share the same sort of memories and concerns with me, even though they each grew up in different parts of the world.  That world was entirely different from the one they know now.  There were no televisions, telephones or radios.  They had homemade dolls and sticks and balls, and they were happy with those sweet, simple things.

None of them claims to know why or how they’ve managed to reach and exceed their hundredth birthday.  But I think their secret to longevity is that they each are happy in their own way.  In fact, they all say they are CONTENT!  They have NO COMPLAINTS!  They’re happy with whatever G-d decides to give them.

I don’t know, but I don’t think pure, simple contentedness in each and every one of them is just a coincidence.  It may truly be the secret to their longevity.

Enjoyed your post. I’m hoping my picture makes it to Willard Scott’s Smucker’s jelly jar on the “Today Show” in a few more decades. (He gives a shout-out to those who reach 100 years of age or older.)
