Today I had the opportunity to meet the sons, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of some of our residents at a brunch that our nursing home threw. What an experience. It was so emotional having the opportunity to meet all the friends and family that the residents have been telling me about for so long, that it was like finally meeting a pen pal with whom I’ve been corresponding for years.
It was such a celebration of all of our residents’ lives, that I felt like singing and dancing, “To life, to life, l’chaim, l’chaim, l’chaim to life . . .” that Fiddler on the Roof melody.
They are the roots on which our society stands. May we help those roots remain strong as keepers and teachers of their legacy.
