Giving Thanks on Thanksgiving

ImageToday, as I prepare to go spend some time with the elderly with whom I have a pastoral relationship at the nursing home, I realize how thankful I am for the simplest things:

I am thankful . . .

. . . that I live in a free country, where I have the opportunity to celebrate whatever holiday(s) I choose to celebrate,

. . . that I am blessed with a husband and children who get along, love one another, love me most of the time, and are generally happy and healthy,

. . . that I have all of my senses,

. . . that I am independent enough to take care of myself,

. . . that I can still think clearly,

. . .  that I can still get around on my own two feet,

. . . and finally, for every minute of every day, because every minute is another opportunity to love, to learn, to grow, and to make myself and the world a better place.

May God bless each and every man, woman and child who works to treat one another as they’d want to be treated with much love, health and happiness this year and every year.  Amen 🙂
