There is only one teeny weeny country on the entire planet in which we are the majority, and the only reason that exists is because of the Balfour Declaration, the Palestine Mandate, the U.N. vote to partition Palestine, and because the world “felt bad” about their standing idly by as we were nearly annihilated during World War II.
Now, as we manage to rebuild our presence and lives there amid daily attacks by Hamas, the world condemns us, God. We work to defend ourselves from Hamas’ rockets, on college campuses, and everywhere we attempt to live, but we are targeted time and again.
We gave up both the Sinai and Gaza for peace, but are still waiting for it. Dear God, when will the world stop blaming us and begin reading Hamas’ charter? We only want to live alongside our Palestinian neighbors in peace and harmony — that’s all.
You know we believe every life is a gift. We believe this so very deeply that we are the only nation on the planet that asks the women and children of the population attacking us to evacuate should we find ourselves forced to strike back, and we are the only nation who feeds the very people trying to destroy us.
Dear Lord, Israel’s Arab citizens do everything its Jewish citizens do. They serve on its Supreme Court and Cabinet and military (if they choose), attend its colleges and universities, and become phenomenal physicians and scientists. Arab women are free to learn alongside their male counterparts and contribute to society in whatever manner they choose. Israel is not an apartheid nation, God. You know that. We are working to be what Youasked us to be: a light unto the nations. We are not perfect yet, but we are trying.
If You would please help us enable the world to see that which is, we would be eternally grateful, Lord. We want You to know how much we appreciate everything You’ve done and continue to do for us. We never have and never will take You for granted, and we thank You from the bottom of our hearts for all of Your work on our behalf.
With everlasting love,
The Jewish People
