Sad & Happy Simultaneously

Jaffe Family - The Middle Years‘Tis true my children are all grown and live now far away

While I miss them, I am happy they’ve decided not to e’er betray

Their inner voice that leads them to be honest and be kind

To their hearts and inner sanctum so they may truly find

Happiness where’er it lay, East or West, night or day,

Which explains my recent focus on our four-legged family member

What can I say — I’m sad — yet happy all the same

For my children are a’building their lives each and every day

As I begin life anew and go my empty-nester way

Looking back so fondly on those crazy children-raising days

Groceries and laundry, dentists, doctors and homework

All juggled while attempting not to e’er shirk my own career’s work

So here I sit a’typin’ on my little black computer

Hoping that my children find a life-mate like their daddy, my life-mate and my suitor

To make memories and children, crazy days and happy times

So they can look back on their own lives without bitterness or remorse

And take joy in their life’s journey — their personal, unique life course.
