In hospice, as we help our patients prepare for death
I’m asked always what can be done so it doesn’t hurt so much, yet
All I can offer is to let yourself feel
Whatever you need to, as you journey through the ordeal
For though it is a transference of our soul from here to there
So much feels left behind down here;
And while we cannot take physical things with us to the heavens
What we can take are the memories, lessons and love, not the lemons.
So eat your fill and learn as much as you can,
Make memories that live on in your eternal soul, so that your exit plan
Is one of a life well lived with absolutely no regrets,
For you’re only here on loan a little while, yet you can make it as good as it gets.
